Controversial front-wheel-drive Elan – the first FWD Lotus. Isuzu 1588cc turbocharged four-cylinder producing 165bhp. Peter Stevens design. Exceptional handling despite FWD layout. Production halted in 1992 when GM sold Lotus then briefly revived as S2 in 1994-95. Around 3855 produced. License later sold to Kia.
